12th of January 2015 - Pitsford Reservoir Birding Trip - Species seen 52.

My first trip this year to Pitsford Reservoir with birding buddy Gary, arriving before sunrise at 07:40am on a frosty, cold morning, perfect conditions for what all birders like, clear blue skies and fresh clean air!

Recent reports of a Slovenian Grebe had us off towards the Gorse area of the reservoir in search of this winter visitor. After scanning the water we soon had the Grebe ticked off with clear not too distant views.

Suddenly a Kestrel was seen overhead which soon dropped down to take prey within 25 metres of where we were standing.

Moving towards the north side we then explored the feeders where we met Neville and Chris local birders from Rugby. After exchanging information about their local knowledge we went our separate ways. Upon settling down for a coffee in one of the hides, we were joined by a young mother and her son who was so knowledgeable for a six year old, that we both agreed that this youngster will certainly be one of our future conservationists!
