About me

My name is Steve McAusland, I was born in Scotland and have lived most of my life in the Rugby area.

When I was a boy I was interested in birds and wildlife, then along came senior school, college, my career, my children and this fell by the wayside!

However this interest was recently reborn during a long period off work due to a serious illness. Now well on the road to recovery, my passion for birds and wildlife grows daily.

Thanks to the internet, my new birder friends, joining the RSPB, Coventry and Warwickshire local RSPB Group, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Devon Birdwatching Preservation Society and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT)
, I can look forward to hopefully many years of being outside in all weathers enjoying whatever turns up?

I also volunteer as a Surveyor and Lundy wildlife officer for the charity MARINElife. This involves day trips aboard the MS Oldenburg helping passengers identify Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises, Seals and Sea Birds. This year will also see me assisting in some of their surveys too with Lundy Island, Holland and France the survey destinations.

I also spend at least a total of 5 weeks a year holidaying in North Devon either at weekends or for weeks at a time, ideal for my passion that is birding.

My favourite local patch is Brandon Marsh a Warwickshire Wildlife Trust site, which is situated between Rugby and Coventry.

Other places I visit are;

Swift Valley Nature Reserve - Rugby.

Draycote Water - Rugby.

Rutland Water - Leicestershire.

RSPB Arne in Poole - Dorset.

Christchurch Bay & Hengistbury Head - Dorset.

The Exe Estuary - South Devon.

The River Taw Estuary - North Devon.
